When I first came to Singapore 22 years ago, I was just a novice cook, trying to find my way around the kitchen and often trying and failing my hand at cooking. I missed home often and sometimes wished I could just get my hands on some good old Kerala food. More often than not I was either disappointed at what was on offer or simply couldn't make it to the far flung places (or so I felt at that time) that the restaurants were located.
As time passed and I got better at cooking, I realized that I could make all I wanted at home. I also realized that I found it extremely rewarding to share my food with someone else. This became a dream in my heart as I went about life over the next few years.
A few months ago, when I started Homemade Heaven, all I wanted was to share this dream, to share a piece of home, of Kerala food, or nostalgia with everyone. I honestly did not expect it to pick up as it did.
Along my road to discovering new and exciting recipes, I came across the Pothichoru, which although wasn't prepared at home, I had heard about. I decided to give this a try and who doesn't like food wrapped in a banana leaf anyway! Ever since I have added that to my menu, its become quite popular.
Talking of new and exciting recipes there's never a dearth of all the wonderful food that you can eat in Singapore. I recently discovered musubi which in itself was quite different from the usual sushi fare. Interesting and totally yummy. The dish has its ties to Hawaii and is a must try for all foodies.
